Work Party This is the first time the main area has looked clean enough to appreciate without a desperate need to keep up with the weeding: photos Cleared Erharta from the upper outcrop of Steve's Rocks (ivy was initially cleared in October '99). There are some Woodland Peas doing well & a few Woodmints gaining foothold. Some Sanicula continues to hold it's ground at the lower end of the outcrop. The snails ate the Dudleya that was planted & the Soaproot is once again smothered in weeds but surviving. The cliffs look truly spectacular... the wavy topsy turvy layers of chert are now waiting for a fresh crop of Dudleya this winter after we spend the summer cleaning out the reseeding Erharta. The switchback trail has largely been abandoned (people just simply prefer the direct route) but maybe we can attract attention to the rocks with the new work going on in this area now & re-establish that section of trail. |
