Overseas/1989-japan/koetsuji

Japan, 1989

The gallery above is most of the collection with 77 pictures instead of 113 and ordered more as a visual slide show rather than by location. No descriptions but if you hold your mouse over the image, you get the filename and location. Below are more complete annotated galleries for each location.

The following are some notes I took when I was organizing these slides. This includes additional gardens which are not pictured, and not all pictures necessarily represent the key elements of the gardens being described. Almost all of the pictures are from Kyoto though I also passed through Tokyo & Yokohama.

EIKAN-DO - Philosophical Walk

ENTSU-JI - North, Zen garden with depth and layers View of Mt. Hiei with moss and rocks in front of straight hedge with cedar trees penetrating.

KOMYO-IN - Tofuku-ji

NANZEN-JI - Philosophical Walk

TENJUAN (Nanzen-in) - South end of Philosophical walk, stroll garden Pleasant pond stroll garden, nice details, gravel and moss garden also, much modification.

Note about the photographs:
The quality of these images is not ideal but I have the original 35mm slides in good condition. There four times more images beyond what is shown here. They were shot with a digital camera from a slide projector and it was a lot of work using multiple exposures and making many corrections in photoshop. See the bottom of my photo page for copywrite information.
